Admission - Full Details
Online registration is open for the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2027. Through IIT JAM, admissions are granted to M.Sc (Two Year), Joint M.Sc-Ph.D, M.Sc-M.Tech, and other post-graduate science programmes in IITs, IISc Bangalore, and other centrally funded technical institutions.
Who can apply
Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in the Science stream can apply. Final year students can also apply - they must submit proof of their degree at the time of admission. Eligibility varies according to the test paper.
Test papers
JAM generally has seven test papers - Biotechnology, Chemistry, Economics, Geology, Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics, and Physics. Candidates can choose one or two papers based on their background.

Exam pattern
It is a Computer Based Test which includes three types of questions - Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT). There is negative marking in MCQ, but not in MSQ and NAT.

Doing an M.Sc from an IIT is the best route for research and higher studies - IITs offer scholarships (assistantships), world-class labs, and opportunities for direct entry into PhD.
